Inaccurate Feeding Due to Volume-Based Dispensing (Not Weight-Based)

The biggest flaw with the Mova PF10 Pet Feeder is that it doesn’t use its built-in scale to measure how much food is actually dispensed. Instead, it operates on a volume-based system, where it counts hopper turns and assumes each one delivers a fixed amount of food — in my case, 5 grams per turn. That assumption doesn’t hold up in the real world, especially if you’re using kibble that’s larger or shaped differently than the baseline they designed around.

We have two feeders — one for our cat and one for our dog — and the inconsistency between the two is glaring. The dog's kibble is well within the size limits listed in the manual, but it’s larger than the cat’s, and that has caused constant issues. Often, the hopper turns but no food drops into the chute at all, meaning a feeding gets logged but nothing actually gets dispensed. Other times, it dispenses a little — maybe the intended 5 grams — but it’s completely hit or miss. I've had to manually trigger multiple extra feedings per day to compensate, which defeats the entire purpose of automation.

The cat’s feeder performs better, probably because the smaller kibble flows more freely. But even then, the feeding amount varies. It's supposed to be 5 grams per turn, but I’ve seen anywhere from 6 to 8 grams come out — again, with no verification from the built-in scale.

The fact that there’s no feedback mechanism to confirm whether the right amount of food was actually dispensed — or even if any food was dispensed — is a major design oversight, especially for a smart feeder. There's just no way to know if your pet was properly fed or is going hungry, unless you physically check the bowl every time.

There is a scale built into the device, which is why this is all the more frustrating — it feels like a fixable problem via software update, but until they build that feedback logic in, I can’t recommend this product if you care about feeding accuracy.

As for other quirks — we had some beeping during failed overnight firmware updates, which was annoying, but turning off auto-updates fixed it. The problem is in the app, no matter how many times you update the firmware on this feeder it never takes. It always says it needs the same update over and over. When you update the feeder, it makes a loud beeping noise when its done. So if you have auto updates on (which is programmed to triggers between 2-6am) the feeder gets stuck in this firmware update loop that causes it to beep loudly over and over again. It woke me up twice in the middle of the night which was super annoying. and took way too much work to figure out how to stop it. Support has responded and seems to be working on a solution, which I appreciate.

Bottom line: unless you’re feeding very small, uniform kibble, this feeder is unreliable, and without scale-based validation, it can’t be trusted to feed your pet the right amount.
